The Magic House Kids Out and About St Louis

magic house kirkwood

Edwards & Sons, as well as the first president of the St. Louis Stock Exchange and a director of the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair. Thanks to the efforts of the founders and the contributions of many St. Louis-area individuals, corporations and foundations, The Magic House opened to the public on October 16, 1979. Everything you need to know about the kids' museum's exhibits, special events, and memberships, plus info about its satellite location, MADE for Kids. This included a large wrap-around porch, an expanded lobby and an elevator that allowed the Museum to be accessible to all visitors.

Explore the Museum

The deposit is 20% of the total amount of the contract and the final balance is due in full no less than 14 days prior to your event. Went there with our son and his family to let the grandkids run around. A little pricey when you pay the same price for everyone, one year and older. MADE for Kids is a bit like the Art Studio/Make-It Workshop at The Magic House, supersized, with STEAM activities from digital painting and a well-stocked art/craft studio to pottery wheel, button-making station, and 3D printing projects.

Nature Play

Cultural events, too, like an observance of the Hindu festival of colors, Holi, and a German Easter celebration, draw crowds. Finally, holiday breakfasts and evenings with characters like Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny are annual traditions. The museum also offers programming for grown-ups including staff development workshops for educators, parent-child classes and special events for grandparents. To house the region’s first interactive children’s museum, they chose a vacant Victorian mansion in suburban Kirkwood, located in the demographic center of the St. Louis metropolitan area. The house was originally built in 1901 as a private home for the George Lane Edwards family. Mr. Edwards was a managing partner in his family’s brokerage firm, A.G.

Membership Levels

We welcome over 500,000 children, parents, grandparents and caregivers to the museum each year. More than 47,000 students visit The Magic House annually on school field trips. For those unable to come to the museum, The Magic House comes to them, reaching more than 30,000 children every year through outreach programs delivered to schools, libraries, community centers, child-care facilities and hospitals. The Magic House engages all children in hands-on learning experiences that spark imagination, pique curiosity, enhance creativity and develop problem-solving skills within a place of beauty, wonder, joy and magic.

In 1997, the Museum underwent a major expansion which added the Children's Village, Math Path, Fitness Center and an Education Wing. In 2001, The Magic House opened Backyard Magic, an outdoor facility featuring a Victorian Education Pavilion, a Children's Sculpture Garden and an outdoor Exhibit Patio. Again in 2008, The Magic House underwent a major expansion as it added a 25,000-square-foot addition nearly doubling the size of the Museum.[5] In 2005, "A Little Bit of Magic" was transformed into the hands on STEM exhibit, WonderWorks. Toddlers enjoy For Baby & Me, an exhibit area inspired by nursery rhymes. Preschoolers love Wonder Works, an area designed especially for younger children to explore the wonders of the world around them. Children ages five to 11 especially like the Children’s Village, a kid-sized community with a market, pet clinic, bank, library, garage and even a fishing pond.

(There's another cozy patio off the master bedroom and a rooftop terrace that offers spectacular sunset views.) “Especially with the weather like it is right now, it's unbelievable, you can be outside all day,” the athlete exults. For just MADE for Kids, there’s an annual membership ($75, two adults, four children).
